Deforestation is one of the most significant issues of our time. Furthermore we are losing 10 million hectares of trees every year.1 As a species, we need to regenerate our ecosystem. This is where the seed suit can help.

The Seed Suit is a wearable device that helps people safely collect, transport, and store seeds for the purpose of regrowing important species. With the seed suit people can become active participants in the health of our environment.

Kava

Kamakana Galon

Kava Is a wearable garden that helps the people connect with the food that they grow. It is equipped with sensors that help the wearer take better care for the plants that they are growing.

Thesis:

The life sensor bracelet (L.S.B) is a wearable device that detects the health of ecosystems. It does this by measuring air quality and communicating to the wearer the balance of a given environment including which species and plants are thriving and which are struggling.

Thesis-

The Water Collecting Tree is a device positioned in the environment to collect water. The mesh is used to catch water droplets from the fog carried by the wind. Water droplets accumulate on the mesh and gravity helps it to be collected. To speed up the collection process the tree engages spring-like action that encourages water droplets to collect faster. The water then can be filtered and then be able to drink. “Fog droplets are carried by the wind and are intercepted while the air passes through the mesh. Minute fog droplets form larger water droplets on the mesh fabric – the most diffused for fog collection purpose is the raschel mesh – and trickle down into an attached gutter. In this way, water can be collected, stored and later used.” It's mainly important that humans become more resourceful in water collection.

Biodiversity is an important life-supporting safety net for future generations. However, a 2019 UN sustainability report states that we are faced with unprecedented and accelerating rates of species extinction- and points to human activity as a major contributor to this trend. How can people be part of the solution?

The Imminent Plant Cuff is a device that encourages greater awareness of the health of the ‘Aina by helping plants and their caretakers communicate. Environmental sensors broadcast environmental data to the device such as pH, sunlight, moisture, and nutrient levels. The device translates this data into color signals to the wearer. With the Imminent Plant Cuff, humanity can be more connected to its kuleana.

The Mobilizer

Noa Fong

The mobilizer is a mobility device to help users save energy in a future world that water is running out. The device helps people move across the landscape while saving energy and resources. The device is powered by wind and solar energy.

  • I learned how to use different online programs and how to make different prototypes from just an idea. I also learned about time management

  • If you were to have more time to develop my cyborg project I would want to make it scaled to size and i would like to demonstrate how it would be powered with a real prototype.

In our world today, many animals are being hunted and abused for their fur and feathers. Bárbara Ferreira, the author of The Use of Animals Inside the Fashion Industry, stated that “Unfortunately, nowadays a percentage of the world’s supply [of feathers] derives from birds plucked alive . . . The animals go through this process every six weeks.”(1) This usage of animals shows a cruel and inhuman way to collect materials used for clothing. The reason people continue to buy these products is largely due to their performance value (water protection, elasticity, durability, and perceived authentic beauty). Although it is not easy to change an industry, steps must be made toward a more humane, ethical, and sustainable fashion future.

H.A.A.T. (Human Animation of Animal Traits)  is a new frontier of fashion that responds to the needs of the wearer by blocking or admitting the elements with the push of a button. This first H.A.A.T prototype is a headpiece that features fibers that mimic swan feathers. As swans swim through the water, their feathers repel the water by layering themselves. Like the feathers of a swan, the fibers on the H.A.A.T device layer when needed and spread apart when needed.  No animals were harmed in the making of this fashion. H.A.A.T couture integrates cutting-edge sustainable technology including a new material Flwrdwn made with wildflowers, biopolymer, and aerogel.

Shelldo

Troy Letoto

Shelldo is a wearable device that is meant to protect the wearer from extreme weather conditions (Hail, storms, snow etc.) When extreme weather is sensed by the Shelldo the Shelldo will expand and open up to protect the user. When the weather is more friendly(Ex.Sunny, and light rain etc.) and does not cause that much of a threat, the Shelldo will remain on the back of the user's neck area. The Shelldo will help the people in my world because my world is a small island and everything is in walking distance from each other.

The S.A.F.E (Safe Assistant Foot Enhancer) is a device that is made out of a rust-resistant material so it can last longer. The S.A.F.E is a wearable cybernetic device that you would put on your feet. . The device would use a scissor lift mechanism; it would be able to lift the user above the water and be able to keep them dry and protected from any contaminated flood water.
