The Weather Sensing Chest-Plate is a wearable device that detects various threatening weather forces and warns its user of the possible danger. This is achieved through the device’s fibers/flaps which are located on different sections of the chest-plate. The user is informed of the type of forces through the different sections being activated.
The Hawaiian islands are constantly facing various weather conditions and environmental changes ranging from hurricanes, sea level rise, and erosion. By 2100, global temperatures are expected to rapidly increase by about 1-8 degrees fahrenheit. This startling fact means that there will be an increase in hurricanes and destruction. This is because hurricanes thrive and are more powerful in warm weather conditions, which means Hawai’i and its land are at greater risk of destruction.1 Climate change also causes a rise in sea level and storm surge through the melting of ice sheets, which means more of Hawai’i’s land will be eroded and destroyed.2 It is common knowledge that these threatening weather conditions will only continue to get worse which means that more of the land will be destroyed, and more people will be in danger. The Weather Sensing Chest-Plate will help keep its users safe by warning them of the incoming environmental/weather threats previously listed through its moving fibers.
